"Repurposed".....have you ever found yourself repurposed?

Friday, May 6, 2011

As I took pictures today to add to my blog, and at the same time wondering what my first blog would be about, I noticed that everything in the header picture had been "repurposed" (one of those buzz words in decorating).  Even the little "nook" (another buzz word--I watch HGTV alot!) in the kitchen above the microwave where those treasures sit was repurposed after removing the old vent hood. And then--flash!--even I have been repurposed--more than once in my lifetime!

But let me digress a little from my own repurposed life.  First let me tell you about those items in the picture.  The cross-stitch in the picture frame was made by a friend as a gift for me after helping with her daughter's wedding.  You may not be able to tell, but each jar has been labeled with a "Fruit of the Spirit".  It will always be a treasured gift because of the love and appreciation put into it's creation by a special friend, but it moves around my house as a decoration--repurposed!  Next, the little cup and saucer was a plaything when I was a child.  Many a tea party was held in my grandmother's backyard with that tea set, along with the mud pies made from dirt out of the cotton field behind Mema's house and decorated with her beautiful flowers' petals. From play dishes--repurposed--to special grown-up memories.  The porcelain coffeepot was, of course, a coffeepot!  Since it's been hanging out at my house it's been a vase, used on camping trips to boil water, and now as part of a nostalgic little vignette--repurposed!  Now my favorite for the moment...my "joy" blocks.  These started out as a Christmas decoration, but then I couldn't help adding the "Nana" decorations given to me by my little Nate on my birthday--and now JOY (repurposed) stays in my kitchen all year because being a Nana is pure JOY!

I hope you are not bored, but understand a little why I called myself nostalgic!  That's me, and I think God made me that way to help me remember all that He's done in my life, and appreciate how He's used these times of change to work out His will.  He repurposed me many times, and I wish I could say that I embraced the changes, but usually, NOT. Eventually I got there, and that's a praise in itself.  He is faithful when we seek His transforming power in our lives, cooperate with Him, and yield ourselves to Him.

Can you relate?  From student to nurse, single to wife, childless to mother, town life to ranch life, career to home, toddlers to home school mom, home school  mom to mom of college students, mom to mother-in-law, empty nest to career, ranch life to town life, mom to Nana, career to retired at home. Repurposed....but all in God's design for me.  Take it from someone who knows....He makes everything (all repurposing) beautiful in His time....
